Black liptstick

Hesitant about trying a bold red lip? Well, things are about to get a whole lot darker.

If the runways at Paris Fashion Week are any indication, lip hues are going seriously gothic this fall. We're seeing the resurgence of moody, romantic, ultra-dark black lipstick.
The look first emerged at the Giles show in London and graced the catwalks once again at Emanuel Ungaro in Paris just yesterday. Intrigued? Here's the scoop on how to craft the onyx look at home.
Begin by lining your lips with a M.A.C. Lip Pencil in Currant, then fill them in with M.A.C. Lipmix in Burgundy. The resulting color is almost black with just a hint of red. While it's dark and daring, there's something about the look that's surprisingly young and fresh, too.
We know, it seems a bit extreme, but hear us out. The deep, dark lip look was a major must-have look in the '90s. Everyone from Christina Ricci to Drew Barrymore was all about the edgy style back in the day and they really pulled it off. #TBT, anyone?
The key lies in keeping the rest of your beauty look minimal. Just a bit of mascara and a clear, matte complexion is all you need to let those vampy lips take center stage. And if you're hesitant about opting for full-on opaque black, we recommend starting with a berry hue as seen at Marc Jacobs during NYFW to help ease yourself into the bold trend. You got this.

St. Patrick's Day

St Patrick’s Day is a global celebration of Irish culture on or around March 17. It particularly remembers St Patrick, one of Ireland’s patron saints, who ministered Christianity in Ireland during the fifth century.

What do people do?

St Patrick’s Day is celebrated in many parts of the world, especially by Irish communities and organizations. Many people wear an item of green clothing on the day. Parties featuring Irish food and drinks that are dyed in green food color are part of this celebration. It is a time when children can indulge in sweets and adults can enjoy a “pint” of beer at a local pub. Many restaurants and pubs offer Irish food or drink, which include:
  • Irish brown bread.
  • Corned beef and cabbage.
  • Beef and Guinness pie.
  • Irish cream chocolate mousse cake.
  • Irish coffee.
  • Irish potato champ, also known as poundies, cally or pandy.
  • Irish stew.
  • Irish potato soup.
Some people plan a pilgrimage to St Patrick’s Purgatory, which is commonly associated with penance and spiritual healing since the early 13th century. It is on Station Island in Lough Derg in County Donegal where St Patrick had a vision promising that all who came to the sanctuary in penitence and faith would receive a pardon for their sins.

Public life

St Patrick's Day is a bank holiday in Northern Ireland (United Kingdom) and the Republic of Ireland. St Patrick’s Day is also a festive occasion in some parts of the world where it is not a public holiday. Therefore traffic and parking may be temporarily affected in streets and public areas where parades are held in towns and cities.

Background

St Patrick is one of the patron saints of Ireland. He is said to have died on March 17 in or around the year 493. He grew up in Roman Britain, but was captured by Irish raiders and taken to Ireland as a slave when he was a young adult. After some years he returned to his family and entered the church, like his father and grandfather before him. He later returned to Ireland as a missionary and worked in the north and west of the country.
According to popular legend, St Patrick rid Ireland of snakes. However, it is thought that there have been no snakes in Ireland since the last ice age. The "snakes" that St Patrick banished from Ireland, may refer to the druids or pagan worshipers of snake or serpent gods. He is said to be buried under Down Cathedral in Downpatrick, Ireland. Ireland’s other patron saints are St Brigid and St Columba.
Luke Wadding, a Franciscan scholar born in 1588 in Waterford, on the south coast of Ireland, was influential in ensuring that the anniversary of St Patrick's death became a feast day in the Catholic Church. Many Catholic churches traditionally move St Patrick's Day to another date if March 17 falls during Holy Week.
Many immigrants from Ireland fled to other parts of the world, including Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, in the 19th and 20th centuries. Many Irish customs, including the St Patrick’s Day celebrations, became quite popular in these countries. However, much of the interest in the St Patrick’s Day events is largely commercially driven in the 21st century.

Symbols

The most common St Patrick's Day symbol is the shamrock. The shamrock is the leaf of the clover plant and a symbol of the Holy Trinity. Many people choose to wear the color green and the flag of the Republic of Ireland is often seen in St Patrick’s Day parades around the world. Irish brands of drinks are popular at St Patrick’s Day events.
Religious symbols include snakes and serpents, as well as the Celtic cross. Some say that Saint Patrick added the sun, a powerful Irish symbol, onto the Christian cross to create what is now called a Celtic cross. Other Irish-related symbols seen on St Patrick’s Day include the harp, which was used in Ireland for centuries, as well as a mythological creature known as the leprechaun and a pot of gold that the leprechaun keeps hidden.

This workout focuses on developing core strength, endurance, and stability while helping you burn excess fat for a mode defined mid-section. A strong core also means better posture and fewer chances of having back pain.

Complete the included Warm-up & Dynamic Stretches before beginning the workout in order to raise your heart rate, prepare your muscles and joints for the exercises to follow and prevent injury.
If you are a beginner, complete the recommended sets and repetitions, taking a 60 to 90-second break between exercises. Perform the workout 2 to 3 times per week.
If you are more advanced, increase the sets to 4 to 6, keeping the repetitions the same. For an added challenge and an intense caloric burn, complete the workout as a circuit performing each exercise one after another with no break until the entire circuit is complete. International Women's Day

All the things you MUST know about International Women's Day

nternational Women's Day has been observed since in the early 1900's, a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies.
1908
Great unrest and critical debate was occurring amongst women. Women's oppression and inequality was spurring women to become more vocal and active in campaigning for change. Then in 1908, 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter hours, better pay and voting rights.
1909
In accordance with a declaration by the Socialist Party of America, the first National Woman's Day (NWD) was observed across the United States on 28 February. Women continued to celebrate NWD on the last Sunday of February until 1913.
1910
n 1910 a second International Conference of Working Women was held in Copenhagen. A woman named a Clara Zetkin (Leader of the 'Women's Office' for the Social Democratic Party in Germany) tabled the idea of an International Women's Day. She proposed that every year in every country there should be a celebration on the same day - a Women's Day - to press for their demands. The conference of over 100 women from 17 countries, representing unions, socialist parties, working women's clubs, and including the first three women elected to the Finnish parliament, greeted Zetkin's suggestion with unanimous approval and thus International Women's Day was the result.
1911
Following the decision agreed at Copenhagen in 1911, International Women's Day (IWD) was honoured the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland on 19 March. More than one million women and men attended IWD rallies campaigning for women's rights to work, vote, be trained, to hold public office and end discrimination. However less than a week later on 25 March, the tragic 'Triangle Fire' in New York City took the lives of more than 140 working women, most of them Italian and Jewish immigrants. This disastrous event drew significant attention to working conditions and labour legislation in the United States that became a focus of subsequent International Women's Day events. 1911 also saw women's 'Bread and Roses' campaign.

1913-1914
On the eve of World War I campaigning for peace, Russian women observed their first International Women's Day on the last Sunday in February 1913. In 1913 following discussions, International Women's Day was transferred to 8 March and this day has remained the global date for International Women's Day ever since. In 1914 further women across Europe held rallies to campaign against the war and to express women's solidarity.
1917
On the last Sunday of February, Russian women began a strike for "bread and peace" in response to the death over 2 million Russian soldiers in war. Opposed by political leaders the women continued to strike until four days later the Czar was forced to abdicate and the provisional Government granted women the right to vote. The date the women's strike commenced was Sunday 23 February on the Julian calendar then in use in Russia. This day on the Gregorian calendar in use elsewhere was 8 March.
1918 - 1999
Since its birth in the socialist movement, International Women's Day has grown to become a global day of recognition and celebration across developed and developing countries alike. For decades, IWD has grown from strength to strength annually. For many years the United Nations has held an annual IWD conference to coordinate international efforts for women's rights and participation in social, political and economic processes. 1975 was designated as 'International Women's Year' by the United Nations. Women's organisations and governments around the world have also observed IWD annually on 8 March by holding large-scale events that honour women's advancement and while diligently reminding of the continued vigilance and action required to ensure that women's equality is gained and maintained in all aspects of life.
2000 and beyond
IWD is now an official holiday in Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, China (for women only), Cuba, Georgia, Guinea-Bissau, Eritrea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Madagascar (for women only), Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Nepal (for women only), Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zambia. The tradition sees men honouring their mothers, wives, girlfriends, colleagues, etc with flowers and small gifts. In some countries IWD has the equivalent status of Mother's Day where children give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers.
The new millennium has witnessed a significant change and attitudinal shift in both women's and society's thoughts about women's equality and emancipation. Many from a younger generation feel that 'all the battles have been won for women' while many feminists from the 1970's know only too well the longevity and ingrained complexity of patriarchy. With more women in the boardroom, greater equality in legislative rights, and an increased critical mass of women's visibility as impressive role models in every aspect of life, one could think that women have gained true equality. The unfortunate fact is that women are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts, women still are not present in equal numbers in business or politics, and globally women's education, health and the violence against them is worse than that of men.
However, great improvements have been made. We do have female astronauts and prime ministers, school girls are welcomed into university, women can work and have a family, women have real choices. And so the tone and nature of IWD has, for the past few years, moved from being a reminder about the negatives to a celebration of the positives.

Sleep well

I just want to wish you a great night / great party / sweet dreams :)

Please follow me on Twitter and Facebook and share my pages! :) Love ya all!!

About last night

Hey Guys!

So, as I promised, I'm writing about my last night.

Yesterday I just wanted to have some fun so I called my friend to go out and drink some alcohol. I really felt to drink to forget this very busy week that I've had. Sometimes it happens. I know a girl should keep it classy but I don't care :)

We went to a club, next to my flat. Ordered some shots and beer and talked about casual things, mostly about his problem with his girlfriend. (Anyway... is it something in the air? Most of my friends have some problem with their relationship...) Then I went to the restroom... the beer made its effect... haha :)

When I entered, the was a girl, she was drunk as I could see it from the first second. She was standing in front of the mirror and doing her make up. I was standing next to her and suddenly she just turned to me and gave me a kiss. But not just a simple one. It was really a hot one. First, I didn't know what to do, it happened so fast I couldn't even say a word. But... to be honest it felt good... She just stormed out the restroom and I didn't know anything about her.

When I went back to our table, I was searching for her, I wanted to ask her why she kissed me, but I couldn't find her.

So we were sitting there at the table and were talking when I realised the girl at the bar. I went up to her and said "hi stranger". She was smiling and asked me if I enjoyed her kiss. I told her I had done.

Then she went to her friends. It was interesting and weird at the same time. BUT: When I got home I could find a paper in my packet with her number :) So... maybe I'll call her one day... :)

Lunchtime

Hey guys!

It's lunchtime. Where I live, it is the main meal of the day. I love it and I usually have my lunch with my friends or I cook something.

Today, I'm having some watermelon, corn, beans, salad and chicken breast... hmmm... delicious... What kind of lunch do you like? Do you have it at home or you eat out?

Last night's dream

Hey guys!

First of all, good morning to all! I hope you had sweet dreams. I also had a dream and I just wanted to share it with you. I hope somebody can tell me what it means or what I should do with it.

So, here it is. Last night, my best friend wanted to laugh so we went online and I don't know how but in the end, we ended up on an adult site where we saw some pictures about amateur couples. Then, somehow we found my pictures with my ex-boyfriend in a pretty emberassing situation. It was not a normal "play", it was... well... 50 shades of grey is just a tale for kids, comparing to this picture.

Then he asked me why I agreed to take these pictures and I couldn't answer him. But he wasn't surprised and as I could see... he really liked the picture.

What do you think guys? Does it mean anything? Does it mean that he likes me as a girl? Because I've never liked him as a boy, he's just my friend. Shall I tell him my dream? What should I do? Tell me.

Please follow me on Twitter or Facebook and tell me your opinion.

PS: I wanted to share this one with you :) (it's not from my dream, haha)

What type is your guy?

As someone who goes clubbing often and parties a lot, I can safely say that I am sort of an expert on male behaviour in these environments. I have studied it over the years and I can now declare that the Indian male on the dance floor can be broadly classified into three categories. All my own work, this! Read and nod in agreement.
Type A: The have-feet-will dance guy: This guy comes to parties only to show off his dance moves. From the moment he arrives, he stares lustfully at the dance floor, waiting impatiently for the appropriate moment when he can hit it. This dude does not care if he has no partner to dance with. It’s better because then all the attention is on him. He can dance to any kind of music. Hindi, English, rock, rap, bhangra… bring it on. He’s a delight to watch and is the centre of attraction. But that’s as long as he’s in his 20s or early 30s. He secretly wants to be a winner of a dance reality show. His friends wil never tell him he’s not that good, and he’ll continue to try and impress people with his skills. But he’s bound to turn pathetic at the point when he begins to compete with people half his age.
Type B: The have-company-will-groove guy: This gent likes to dance, but he is shy/awkward, and not much of a dancer, so he doesn’t like to stand out in the crowd. He likes to be part of a group. This group can consist of a few guys like him. Or be a bunch of colleagues from work —  a mix of girls and guys. This fella feels more comfortable with Hindi filmi music, and his dance moves are basically steps from Bollywood films he watches.
Type C: The have-eyes-will-stare guy: This guy thinks he’s just rolled out of a western. He struts into a bar/party/nightclub as though he owns it. He wears tees that are too tight and jeans that hug his bottom. He’s in his mid-30s or late 40s. He used to be attractive, but is balding now and has gained some pounds. This man has no interest in dancing. He sits by the bar with his loser friends and is purely there to enjoy the view – PYT in STDs (Short Tight Dresses). He and his band of merry men sit and stare, commenting on the eye candy on display. Most likely to send a note to some girl during the course of the evening.
Type D: The have-girlfriend-will shake-a-leg-or-two guy: This dude has a girlfriend. They’ve been together for a while. She likes to dance. So he escorts her to a party/nightclub and watches from the sidelines, as she grooves with her gal pals (not as weird as a bunch of boys burning the dance floor). Or that Type B guy.  Every now and then, his girl will pout over him not joining her. At some point, she will drag him to the dance floor and he will agree to shake a leg. He’s most likely to close dance. It doesn’t involve a lot of movement, you see. And it keeps his girl happy.
Type E: The have-appetite-will-drink guy: This chap is in a relationship with either Budweiser or Jack Daniel’s. Or both. He has no interest in the ladies, the music or the dancing. He is purely there to drink, and unwind. He might be with a girl, solo or with buddies. This type is found more often in pubs that screen matches. Likely to metamorphose into a couch potato who will continue with that behaviour in your living room some day.

Party Time! :)

Hey guys! I hope you are all good and you are having a great afternoon.

As you can see, I do :) So, I was just thinking about your habits, I'm really curious, so please let me know, what kind of partied do you prefer?

Mostly, young people at my age prefer to go to a club or to a disco, but I don't.

I prefer stayting at home with my friends, have some drink and talk to each other, play games or watch sport events together. I think that's the most interesting and exciting party ever :)

But what about you? Let me know in comment :)

Kisses.

Chocolate and girls - the two best things

I have been feeling low these last few days. No, nothing is wrong. It’s just one of those things that we girls periodically go through when for no reason we hate everything and everyone around us, except our girlfriends. And chocolates. Often, my model friends and I are watching our figures, so we stay away from brownies, cupcakes, pastries et al, but when the hormones are in overdrive, then all rules get broken. If you ask me, there are only two things that can make a girl happy — sex and shopping. And chocolate is the third. There are days when chocolate is my main food group. I read an article that said: Chocolate improves happiness, health and beauty. Sounds far-fetched, but I have allowed myself to believe in it. Takes care of the post-bingeing guilt. Did you know that chocolate is also considered to be an aphrodisiac? Aztec ruler Montezuma is said to have drunk goblets full of a chocolate drink called xocolatl (bitter water) to provide stamina for his sexual conquests. It has also long been believed that chocolate bestows heightened feelings of sexuality upon the eater. Chocolate does, indeed, contain several compounds that have been shown to act on the brain in a myriad ways and induce pleasure. Guys should know that whenever a girl is feeling down and out, there’s only one way to cheer her up — dark, white , bitter, sweet, nutty —, whatever her poison, just get her a chocolate hamper.

I remember on one of my trips to LA, I saw a huge chocolate store. It was two floors of just chocolates, and there were as many wide-eyed kids as there were teenage girls and women in their 20s, 30s 40s…you get the idea. I don’t see very many men being chocoholics. According to a study in the US, beer is to men what chocolate is to women. Lager delivers happiness to men. Last week on Easter, my friends sent me baskets of goodies. Chocolate eggs! And I am not sharing them with anyone. It’s good to be selfish sometimes. Let me leave you with this thought by Richard Warren: “The most desired gift of love is not diamonds or roses or chocolate. It is focused attention.”

Let's go waterfall jumping!

Is waterfall jumping a real thing? Apparently so. Enough for Outside magazine’s website to let me write a trend piece about it.
I’ve long been a fan of Outside and actually pay for a subscription. As the print world business model has continued to decline and the online publishing world is increasingly more cluttered by listicles and linkbait, I’ve come to love them even more. They still do investigative long-form journalism. They pursue odd stories and dedicate 10,000 words to them. They’re not afraid to turn over the rocks nobody else is looking at, or buck conventional wisdom about what’s good for your body.

The place I did it is featured in that article, along with others ranging from Arizona to the Caribbean to Central America to Ireland even. There are other destinations where you can do this in the Balkans, in Hawaii, and probably other unknown spots where the tour operator doesn’t have a website so nobody knows about it.
As mentioned in the article, it is strongly advised to do this with a tour company. They’ll give you a helmet, a life jacket, and instructions on where the water is deep enough for jumping from 40 feet up in the air. When it comes to serious adventure activities that look really scary, it’s usually not a good idea to just wing it on your own.

Having fun yesterday

Hi guys!

I hope you had a fantastic night yesterday and you had sweet dreams.

What about me?

Well, yesterday I went out with my girlfriends to have some fun at a local bar and it was amazing. Unfortunatelly I haven't seem them for a while so it was the time to gather again and just share our thoughts. Of course we drank some shots (mostly vodka since it's one of my favourite drinks) and we were chatting.

What kind of parties do you prefer? For me, the best ones are those where we can drink and chat. Of course sometimes I want to dance as well but I prefer going out and just sittin around a table with some drink and chatting.

I'm really curious about your habit! Tell me in a comment.

Oh, and of course, here's a picture about us :) I love that red dress. Opinion? :)

Top 5 first date idea

Hey guys! Are you in trouble with chosing the best place for a date?
Here's the top 5 first date idea to have a good time together:)

  • Number 5:

Bowling is an old-school date idea with a great casual vibe. The two of you can have a beer or a slice of pizza while engaging in a friendly competition. Just about every town has a bowling alley. It’s a low-stress environment, so your date is guaranteed to feel relaxed and comfortable, which is important. If she’s comfortable, she’ll have more fun, and if she’s having fun, you’ll get a second date.

  • Number 4:

Aquariums aren't just for fourth-grade field trips; they're also a great place for a first date. You can walk leisurely with your lady friend as the two of you survey all of the sea life. And underwater creatures are colorful, slimy, toothy, and weird enough to keep things interesting.

  • Number 3:

Taking a date to the driving range is another fun outdoors activity. It’s not particularly strenuous, though, so your date doesn’t need to be athletic to have a good time. The driving range makes a great daytime date. It’s also a good first date idea because if she’s not a golfer, helping her with her swing is a great opportunity to get up close and personal. Alternatively, if she’s a little more experienced, it’s a chance for some playful competition.

  • Number 2:

Ice-skating is innocent fun. That’s why it makes this list of our favorite first date ideas. It’s a great date for women who love to be active. And if she doesn’t know how to skate, so what? Holding hands as you help her stay on her feet is a fun way to spend an afternoon and an excellent opportunity to get to know each other.

  • Number 1:

Sharing new experiences together is a great way to build a connection with someone. That’s why if you’re going to take her out to a restaurant, you should try taking her somewhere a little more adventurous. Check out a new ethnic cuisine -- something neither of you have tried before. The element of adventure will add some excitement to your date, and, who knows, maybe the two of you will find a new favorite.

If you've like my ideas please follow me for more tips :)

Easter Bunny

Easter is coming.... are you ready for it?

Then here's a little preview :)

50 shades of grey - no, thanks

When Francis Ford Coppola adapted The Godfather he mined Mario Puzo’s schlock novel for all the drama and emotion he could find. Many film adaptations of terrible popular novels go for this approach, attempting to elevate the material. Far fewer go the other way, embracing the silliness and the celebrating the lack of quality, camping it up. Fifty Shades of Grey is, for the first thirty or so minutes, one of these, a movie that seems kind of embarrassed by the source material and treats it all like a romp. And then it gets into the back half where suddenly all of the stilted dialogue and unsexy sex become Very Serious Business, and a modern camp classic collapses.

Fifty Shades of Grey is based on a smut novel that in turn evolved out of Twilight fan fiction. In other words its pedigree is flawlessly lowbrow - almost no one can mount a defense that this is more than junk. Which is okay, and when the movie embraces that junkiness I found myself very, very entertained. It certainly helps that Dakota Johnson, playing Anastasia Steele, is wonderfully watchable. She’s funny and sly, and she pumps up this one-dimensional nothing character into someone you actually like and care about. But Johnson is saddled with Jamie Dornan as her co-lead, and he has all the charisma of a clearcut forest. He’s playing a villain, and he never makes Christian Grey feel like someone you’d want to share an elevator with, let alone make out with him in there.
Anastasia is a college senior who, through circumstance, ends up interviewing young billionaire Christian Grey for her school paper. The two click and he begins pursuing her through extravagant and controlling means. As they get closer we learn two things: Anastasia is a virgin (like, on every level) and Christian is an enormous pervert. The plot of the film, such as it is, is Christian trying to convince Anastasia to allow him to tie her up and whip her and stuff.
There are almost no other incidents or plotlines beyond this. Other characters appear - Christian’s family, Anastasia’s family - but they advance nothing, and exist only to pad out the already punishing runtime. Once the brief courtship between Anastasia and Christian ends the movie becomes a repetitive sequence of scenes where the dominant pervert tries to make the unsure virgin his submissive. This is accomplished by her asking him questions, to which he responds. Repeat. In the most immortal line of the movie she asks him what a buttplug is - which is funny not only because it comes up as they are going over a contract that outlines what she’s willing to do sexually, an already funny scenario, but also because you’d think a buttplug’s name is fairly self-explanatory. The girl is an English lit major - surely she can make it out through context clues.
The lack of incident or compelling character sequences wouldn’t be so bad if the film’s sex was particularly sexy, but it isn’t. And there isn’t much of it, and what there is doesn’t feel incredibly taboo. There’s some tie and tease stuff, some ice cubes and blindfolds, but it isn’t until the very end when this BDSM movie gets to the SM stuff, and even that feels weak. Maybe the original consumers of the Fifty Shades of Grey novel didn’t have particularly big worldviews, but anybody who has been on the internet for more than a few weeks will have seen crazier things. I’d say most people who have had healthy, experimental sex lives have probably tried crazier things than what’s shown inFifty Shades of Grey. There’s a scene where Anastasia is Googling “submissives” and finds pictures of women who are bound and is HORRIFIED, and I cannot imagine that a 21 year old girl who is attending a major university hasn’t at least seen images like that before, probably in an on-campus art show or something. The movie seems to be set in 1955, but with cell phones and computers.
The unsexy nature of its smut is only highlighted by the fact that Christian shows Anastasia his ‘play room’ very early in the movie. We get a good look at floggers and restraints and whips and chains… and then they don’t get used for an hour. You could argue that this delay is in the service of a kind of teasing play between the film and the audience, but then you would demand some kind of skill from the film. Building tension is great, but showing off a dungeon and never really paying it off is true cruelty.
All of these implements of pleasure and pain are shot in the same overlit way as everything else in this movie; director Sam Taylor-Johnson approaches every scene with a flat lighting scheme that makes the movie look like a PG-13 body swap comedy from the early 00s. There are one or two sequences that look interesting, especially the Anastasia/Christian board room negotiation (the buttplug scene), but every other bit of this movie is boring looking. Even the sex scenes are shot and edited with what seems to be a generic Sexytime template.
Fifty Shades of Grey’s biggest sin is being incredibly boring; as the film grinds on in its last hour it becomes clear that nothing is going to happen and that Kelly Marcel’s awful, tin-eared script (seriously, this movie has some of the most atrocious dialogue committed to screen in years) is just going to run again and again over the same ground - Christian trying to get Anastasia to sign his contract, Anastasia trying to understand why Christian won’t snuggle with her. I’m sure this is faithful to EL James’ novel, and I’m sure that these lengthy sequences of the two standing around talking about sex come from James’ status as some kind of profound amateur outsider artist with absolutely no sense of drama or storytelling. The film’s intense commitment to being dull makes you long for vampires and werewolves; as bad as Twilight was at least it had these amusing trappings around the edges. Fifty Shades of Grey could have used some metaphor laid over its skeletal drama. Or it should have kept the course of the first act, embracing the incredible silliness of the terrible source material.
At least Johnson is good. If the movie ever gets near sexy it’s completely because of her; she can be silly and she can smolder, and she can go from one to the other in a heartbeat. She’s trapped in this franchise (I do not understand how there are going to be two more instalments of this shit), like Anastasia in some tricky rope, but I hope that this film serves as a launching pad for bigger and better things. She has so much natural life and humanity that she is even able to pierce through the grey fog of bullshit that is this movie.
